Probuphine is a prescription medication used as a maintenance treatment of opioid dependence. Probuphine belongs to a group of drugs called opioid partial agonist-antagonists. These work to treat dependence, because they produce similar effects to opioids.
It is available as an implantable rod that is placed under the skin of the upper arm by a healthcare professional.
Common side effects include implant-site pain, itching, and redness as well as headache.
