7 Ways to Boost Your Immune System
According to the American Gastroenterological Association, probiotics are living microorganisms that research has shown to benefit your health. Most often, probiotics are bacteria, but they may also be other organisms like yeasts. Many times, probiotics are the same as the “good” bacteria already in your body — particularly those in your stomach or gut — and it’s these good bacteria that are so vital to good health and digestion. In fact, about 80 percent of your body’s immune cells are located within your digestive system! So keeping a healthy gut is important to keeping a strong immune system. Yogurt, with all its probiotic glory, can boost your immune system by bolstering these levels of good organisms. Probiotics are also found in whole and fermented foods like raw sauerkraut, miso, kefir, kimchi and microalgae. Kefir is a cultured and fermented dairy drink that has been used for thousands of years as a health elixir. When it comes to probiotics, variety is best, so use many sources for optimal benefits.
