How Stress Saps Your Health

Stress and Death

Chronic stress over extended periods of time may be a killer. Multiple studies have found links between high levels of stress and the risk of early death. Interestingly, this risk seemed to be greatest for younger and middle-aged adults, particularly men. One explanation for this link could be a change in perspective with age and experience that allows one to better manage daily stressors. And lest we blame work and the economy for all stress-related health issues, it is important to consider how one’s social life can impact mental and physical health. A recent study found that stressful social relations, such as conflict related to one’s partner or children, were also associated with an increased death risk.
