Keeping Kids Healthy During the School Year

Hand-Washing Is Key

Experts agree that the best way to keep students healthy during the school year is to make sure they wash their hands. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calls hand-washing a “do-it-yourself” vaccine and one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick and prevent the spread of germs to others. Teach your child how to properly wash her hands before eating, after using the restroom or blowing her nose. Use these five simple steps: wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry. In addition, teach your children to wash their hands for the proper amount of time — 15 to 20 seconds of lathering.
