Think Pink!
By early 1992, Evelyn Lauder (corporate vice president of Estée Lauder and breast cancer survivor) added the ribbon to cosmetics counters across the country as she worked with Alexandra Penney, editor in chief of Self Magazine. In fall of 1992, Estée Lauder makeup counters handed out 1.5 million ribbons that also included laminated cards describing proper breast self-exams. These counters had also collected more than 200,000 pink ribbon petitions that urged the White House to increase funding for breast cancer research.
