Yoga for Mental Health

Yoga and Mood

According to Harvard Health, yoga — like other breathing techniques aimed at stress-reduction — may help with depression. It has also been found to reduce headaches, fatigue, back pain and improve mood. Yoga may positively affect patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and may improve the quality of life of patients with dementia, cancer and epilepsy. According a study from Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, yoga improved mood in anxiety patients and had a positive correlation to increased GABA (a neurotransmitter) levels in the brain.
